As there is no cure for Down Syndrome, nothing but on going support and helping them to live a normal and happy life as possible is all that anyone would wish who carries this genetic disorder.

There is absolutely no 'dead-end' for a down syndrome patient's life. If anything, there is becoming an increasing lifespan for DS patient's. Now, "Down Syndrome individuals are living longer than ever before"[1] 104 years ago, in 1910, children with DS were only expected to live to the age of nine. As the technology world is substantially increasing, so are the chances of young individuals lives. From 19-20 years old till now having "80% of adults with Down Syndrome reaching the age of 60+ since the discovery of antibiotics". [1] This shows an increasingly growing life for every individual and means there is becoming more and more they can do for one another to live an enjoyable life.
With a largely 220,000 children world wide with DS, special schools, counselling, and reliable help is always alongside.
Having DS does not stop your child from starting to live a normal life, whether interaction, school or even preschool is the scenario. Importantly, babies and children do attend childcare centres, playgroups and preschools as this allows them to interact with others of the same age, thus, will learn with and from others of the same age group. An individual's responsibility and good behaviour does not change and the expectations all remain equal. Although alternations are required when dealing with individuals with DS, expressions and behaviour occurs to be the most significant as this where mental development is lacked with this genetic disorder and further frustration may be led to.However, by looking and trying to understand further, the real message or sequence may be revealed by what the child is trying to express. By understanding an individuals needs, their weaknesses are worked and dealt with so the children's specials requirements are met to standards where they are not excluded of others.
Although parent's have the complete option to dedicate what school their child attends, research has proven that majority of children with Down Syndrome make the best progress when they are educated in mainstream schools alongside their peers. [2] Support during schools is one of the most significant contributing factor to an individuals life. However,
All support is provided to access the regular curriculum, although each individual has different needs and support, their program modification will vary according to their needs.
